Open Water Bodies

Fear and anxiety in the minds of the people regarding open water bodies like small lakes and ponds. The death of two kids from Mapusa due to drowning recently has brought this matter to fore. The steps the Government intends to take to prevent  such accidents.

(a) furnish details of buildings which are vacant, partly occupied or in a dilapidated condition with details thereof;
(b) the plans of the Government to utilize these old buildings with details thereof;
(c) whether the Government is aware of the current condition of the SD IV, Works Division XIII  office in Mapusa; and
(d) if so, the action taken by the Government; if not, reasons thereof?

(a) furnish details of buildings which are vacant, partly occupied or in a dilapidated condition with details thereof;

Sir, As per enclosed Annexure.

(b) the plans of the Government to utilize these old buildings with details thereof;

The Government is in the process of devising a mechanism to utilize these vacant buildings.

(c) whether the Government is aware of the current condition of the SD IV, Works Division XIII  office in Mapusa; and

Sir, Yes. The said office SD IV (WD XIII) is located in Tourism Department building at Mapusa& same is maintained by Tourism Department. However, we are in the process of shifting the said office to PWD premises in the next two months.

(d) if so, the action taken by the Government; if not, reasons thereof?

The premises belong to Tourism Department . The maintenance of the office premises is being taken up with Tourism Department.

(a) whether the Government is aware of the rising demand for water in the State due to growth in Industry and trade, the influx of migrant population and the rise in local population; if so details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has conducted a survey of the number of existing commercial and domestic water connections/users; if so, details thereof;
(c) whether the Government seriously considers alternate sources of water such as rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and desalination, if so, details thereof; and 
(d) the action taken by the Government to tackle the growing demand for water in the State; details thereof?

(a) whether the Government is aware of the rising demand for water in the State due to growth in Industry and trade, the influx of migrant population and the rise in local population; if so details thereof;

Sir, yes and efforts are being made to meet the future demand through various water supply schemes.

 

(b) whether the Government has conducted a survey of the number of existing commercial and domestic water connections/users; if so, details thereof;

The details of domestic and non domestic consumers are as per Annexure I

(c) whether the Government seriously considers alternate sources of water such as rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and desalination, if so, details thereof; and 

The state is self sufficient with raw water for drinking purpose. As such there is no consideration for alternate sources of water.

(d) the action taken by the Government to tackle the growing demand for water in the State; details thereof?

In order to meet the present shortfall and cater to the future demand various augmentations of water supply schemes, improvement of water supply position is proposed and the details are as per Annexure II.

063 - UNINTERRUPTED SUPPLY OF WATER TO MAPUSA CONSTITUENCY


63. WILL the Minister for Public Works be pleased to state: 

(a) the measure taken by the Government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water to Mapusa Constituency; 
(b) whether the Government intends to lay/construct a dedicated line for supplying water; if so, the time frame by which this pipeline will be laid and made operational;  
(c) whether any proposal with the Government for construction of reservoirs; the details of water reservoirs to be constructed such as estimated date of commencement construction, completion and commissioning; and the status of the tendering process and estimate along with the source of funds;  
(d) the beneficiaries of the said reservoirs;  
(e) the existing water connection along with the date of installation, the gauge of pipeline; and 
(f) Whether the augmentation of the Assonora water treatment plant has been conducted recently to increase the water production due to the increase in demand from residential and commercial project in Bardez Taluka?

By Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Hon’ble Minister for PWD 

(a) the measure taken by the Government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water to Mapusa Constituency; 

Sir, the water supply to Mapusa Constituency is received from Water Treatment Plant at Assonora. The demand is 20 MLD and the supply is 14 MLD. The shortfall is 6 MLD. The supply duration is 2-4 hours.The augmentation of Water Treatment Plant at Assonora is proposed to be taken up, and the same is tendered and will be taken up shortly.

(b) whether the Government intends to lay/construct a dedicated line for supplying water; if so, the time frame by which this pipeline will be laid and made operational;  

No. There is no proposal to lay a dedicated line for Mapusa Constituency.

(c) whether any proposal with the Government for construction of reservoirs; the details of water reservoirs to be constructed such as estimated date of commencement construction, completion and commissioning; and the status of the tendering process and estimate along with the source of funds;  

Yes. A GLR of 300m3 capacity is proposed to be taken up near DMC College at an estimated cost of Rs. 99.11 lakhs. The tenders for the same are opened and processed for approvals. The period of execution is 360 days after issue of work order. The said project is approved and taken up under state funds.

(d) the beneficiaries of the said reservoirs;  

The residents of Assagoa, Canca and Mapusa (around Ghatyeshwar temple) will be the beneficiaries of the said reservoir.

(e) the existing water connection along with the date of installation, the gauge of pipeline; and 

Not carried out as on date.

(f) Whether the augmentation of the Assonora water treatment plant has been conducted recently to increase the water production due to the increase in demand from residential and commercial project in BardezTaluka?  

Recently no augmentation of Assonora WTP has been carried out.
